More visibility for certified growers through the Green Walk

Published: September 20, 2024
The Trade Fair Aalsmeer hosts the Green Walk every year. Growers certified to FSI (Floriculture Sustainability Initiative) sustainability standards receive a ‘Green Walk’ sign in their stand.

As many as 53% of the growers present are FSI certified and more and more will be doing so in the coming period. Sustainability is increasingly a decisive factor for consumers and companies when buying products. So too in floriculture.

In the floriculture sector, all links in the chain work hard every day to produce beautiful, high-quality flowers and plants that delight consumers. Retailers, including supermarkets, garden centres, online shops and florists, are also making more and more demands on sustainably grown flowers and plants. In addition, stricter laws and regulations are coming down on the floriculture sector. Through certification, we create transparency in the sector. Certified growers keep track of their use of water, gas and crop protection agents, among other things.

Certification keeps the sector future-proof. More than 70% of the flowers and plants on the Royal FloraHolland platform now meet FSI requirements.
